Cuffie di protezione per saldatori: cosa sono e quali modelli sono disponibili

Do you deal with welding every day ? Do you have to handle flames and sparks? Do you risk contact with incandescent pieces that could cause serious damage?

It doesn't matter whether you weld once a month for an hour or do it every day for eight hours, what matters when you weld is that you do it in a safe condition .

To do this, the first step is the use of at least two elements: the helmet and the cap for welders , i.e. those devices which, placed on the head, help protect the scalp.

Welding helmet: why use it?

To understand the issues related to your safety, let's start with the structure of a welding helmet .

The main elements are:

  • internal cruise , which rests on the head,
  • adjustable band , to tighten or widen as desired, on the back of the neck
  • darkening filter that protects the eyes during welding.

Let's say you wear a helmet and start welding. What can happen with wire or active electrode welding is that while we are welding, dots, welding spatters start to crackle, to jump around, everywhere.

Sometimes these welding residues stop only in the welding area, on other occasions, however, especially when welding at high currents, therefore at high temperatures, they begin to burst in the air and it is possible that they on the head of the welder.

Wearing a helmet allows you to protect your face and the top of your head , however, in the nape area, you remain uncovered, leaving your scalp exposed to any incandescent pellets, with consequent burns and pain.

How to solve this problem? With welding headdress

What are welding headdress and what are they used for?

There are some fireproof cotton caps that have the precise aim of protecting the whole head. Furthermore, these types of caps prevent the bad smell - the typical slightly acrid smell that is felt by heating the metal for just a few minutes - from impregnating the hair.

There are different types of headdress; let's look at them together.

SACIT CAP-62 headdress with strap

The first type is characterized by:

  • flame retardant cotton
  • tear with strap , positioned under the neck, to open and close
  • broad protection on face and top
  • tail of fabric on the neck which, however, does not ensure total protection of the area, as it remains poorly adherent and during movements it may not be able to prevent the contact of the welding dots with the skin.

SACIT CAP-66 headdress

This second type, unlike the first, also offers greater protection for the neck:

  • it is more closed under the chin
  • features Strap that practically closes on the cheek
  • the back on the neck is wider and longer , reaching up to the shoulders and closing the entire surface so that nothing enters the neck.

SACIT CAP-68 hair cap

With this type of headset a very professional level is reached . Always structured with strap closure, the cap, beyond the head area, continues as a sort of cape that manages to cover and protect totally:

  • throat
  • part of the chest
  • neck
  • shoulders.

It is ideal for sanding jobs, where the risk of splinters is greatest.

WELDAS DOO RAG headdress

Finally, more than a headdress, we have the bandana . A great product is the bandana from the Dutch brand Weldas.

It always acts as protection for the top of the head . So everything we've seen with respect to helmet use remains valid. What is missing, also in this case, is the neck protection.

Many welders choose this type of cap which is produced in black or decorated with the stars of the European Union.

In short, you can experiment with the different types of headdress to understand which is the most suitable for the work you do every day and which is the most comfortable for your tastes.
